Where does it start to go wrong?…

Postpartum Depletion

After pregnancy and childbirth, a woman’s body is often left depleted of key nutrients due to the demands of growing a baby, potential blood loss, breastfeeding, and stress. Many mom’s are aware of essential vitamins, but we can also become depleted in minerals, which give the body life and energy - they run the electrical charge in your body!

Here are the most common mineral deficiencies seen in the postpartum period:

1. Iron
Why it's low: Blood loss during delivery + increased needs from pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Symptoms: Fatigue, dizziness, hair loss, brain fog, pale skin, shortness of breath.

2. Zinc
Why it's low: Zinc is crucial for immune function and tissue healing; it's heavily used during pregnancy and lost in breast milk.

Symptoms: Poor wound healing, lowered immunity, taste/smell changes, skin issues, postpartum depression.

3. Magnesium
Why it's low: Magnesium is depleted by stress, breastfeeding, and hormonal shifts.

Symptoms: Anxiety, muscle cramps, insomnia, irritability, headaches.

4. Calcium
Why it's low
:
Needed in large amounts for fetal bone development and lactation, depleted by stress.

Symptoms: Bone pain, muscle cramps, brittle nails, numbness/tingling, mood swings.

5. Selenium
Why it's low: Required for thyroid hormone production and antioxidant defense; easily depleted postpartum.

Symptoms: Thyroid imbalance, fatigue, brain fog, weakened immunity.

6. Sodium & Potassium
Why it's low: Hormonal shifts and increased fluid demands (especially if breastfeeding).

Symptoms: Dizziness, fatigue, poor hydration, muscle weakness, brain fog.

Toxic buildup

Toxins from food, water, air, and personal care products can build up in the body over time, especially if detox pathways are sluggish during pregnancy and postpartum.

Common toxins include:

  • heavy metals (like mercury, aluminum and lead)

  • pesticides

  • plastics (like BPA)

  • flame retardants

  • mold toxins

  • & bacterial or Candida overgrowth

Common postpartum symptoms associated with toxic buildup include:

  • fatigue

  • brain fog

  • mood swings

  • poor milk supply

  • trouble losing weight.

Supporting gentle detoxification can help moms remove these toxins and rebalance their health.

Here are some of the top natural detox methods that are gentle yet effective:

  1. Prioritize clean, whole foods with plenty of fiber to support daily elimination.

  2. Stay hydrated with filtered water to flush toxins through the kidneys.

  3. Support liver health with foods rich in sulfur, like garlic, onions, and cruciferous vegetables.

  4. Sweat regularly through exercise or gentle sauna use (with medical clearance postpartum).

  5. Maintain regular bowel movements to prevent toxin reabsorption.

  6. Support gut health with probiotics and fermented foods.

  7. Deep breathing and stress reduction to decrease the burden on the adrenals.

  8. Get good sleep, since the body does most of its repair and detox overnight.

  9. Reduce toxin exposures at the source by choosing low-tox personal care, cleaning, and food storage products.

  10. Dry brushing - help move the lymphatic system, which removes toxins.

  11. Rebounding - also helps the lymphatic system keep moving!

The Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA)
(aka The Minerals & Metals Test)
is THE best first test for Postpartum Moms.

It tests all your essential minerals (including electrolytes) and shows any hidden metal toxicities.

That is why it is included in my Postpartum Support Package!

A simple hair collection shows your mineral levels and toxic metals released for the past 3-4 months.
With just a small sample, we can uncover:

  • Key mineral (& electrolyte!) imbalances

  • Adrenal and stress response patterns

  • Hidden heavy metal toxicity

  • Mineral Ratios also give a glimpse of your Thyroid & Metabolic Rate

Gut Imbalances

Your digestive system does more than break down food - it impacts your immunity, energy, and even your mood.

Gut imbalances can drive many postpartum symptoms. After childbirth, the gut can become more vulnerable due to stress, antibiotics, and/or hormone shifts. This can lead to bloating, fatigue, mood swings, nutrient malabsorption, and even worsen hormone imbalances by disrupting estrogen detox and increasing inflammation.

Healing the gut is key to restoring energy, mood, and hormone harmony postpartum.

Common Issues Causing Gut Imbalances:

1. Bacterial or Yeast overgrowth
(such as Candida)

2. Parasites or Toxic bacteria

3. Toxic Exposure
(metals, pesticides, plastics)

4. Chronic Stress

Start Here:

1. Remove inflammatory foods

2. Support digestion (enzymes)

3. Rebalance yeast (Candida) or Bacterial imbalances

4. Clear out toxic bacteria & parasites

5. Repair the gut lining

6. Support with probiotics

If you suspect Gut Issues,
it is very important to deal with it FIRST!

If you have gut issues, you it might prevent you from healing due to…

  • Poor nutrient absorption

  • Chronic inflammation

  • Leaky gut toxins & food sensitivities

  • Hormone imbalances (reduces peristalsis & excess estrogen release)

  • Ongoing infections (Candida or Bacterial endotoxins)

  • Temporary healing only

The first test to best give you a snapshot of your gut health is: The Organic Acids Test

(AKA the Candida, Metabolic, & Vitamins Test)

This powerful at-home urine test offers insight into over 70 key biomarkers, making it one of the most comprehensive functional lab tests available. It helps uncover:

  • Yeast and fungal overgrowth (like Candida)

  • Bacterial imbalances in the gut

  • Mitochondrial (energy) function

  • Neurotransmitter metabolites

  • Detoxification and antioxidant status

  • B-vitamin and nutrient deficiencies

  • Inflammation and oxalate levels

Why it matters:
The OAT gives a wide-angle view of your body's internal function—from gut and brain chemistry to energy production and detox capacity. Whether you're dealing with fatigue, mood issues, skin flare-ups, poor focus, or chronic symptoms with no clear cause, this test helps reveal hidden imbalances that standard labs often miss.

My recommendation is to Start with the Postpartum Package, which includes the HTMA. If you suspect Gut Issues, add the OAT to give you an expanded data set to work with.

Hormone Imbalances

After birth, hormone levels such as estrogen and progesterone drop drastically. While some hormone shifts stabilize within 6–12 weeks, full hormonal rebalance can take 6 months to a year or more, especially without support.

Common postpartum symptoms  linked to hormone imbalances include:

  1. Fatigue or Exhaustion

  2. Mood Swings, Anxiety, Depression

  3. Weight Retention, Difficulty Losing Weight

  4. Sleep Disturbances, Insomnia

  5. Hair Thinning, Hair Loss

  6. Low Libido

  7. Brain Fog (aka “mom brain”)

  8. Irregular or heavy periods (once they return)

  9. Dry skin or vaginal dryness

  10. Rapid Aging

Stress & hormones tend to shift a lot after birth.

If you are experiencing any of the above symptoms, the Stress, Mood & Metabolism Test is key.

This simple at-home blood prick test measures:

Estradiol & Progesterone

The two most important hormones in the female body, individual levels as well as the ratio Pg/E2 - a key indicator of estrogen dominance

Testosterone & DHEA

Key sex hormones (androgens)

Cortisol

Produced by the adrenal glands to keep up with our daily stress response.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D is actually a hormone mainly produced when our skin is exposed to sunlight.

Thyroid Panel

Comprehensive analysis of all thyroid markers T4, T3, TSH, TPO antibodies to get a complete picture of thyroid health and function

Hemoglobin A1c

Indicates blood sugar regulation.

My recommendation is to Start with the Postpartum Package, which includes the HTMA.
If you suspect Gut Issues, add the OAT to give you an expanded data set to work with.
For a Comprehensive Panel, add the Stress, Mood & Metabolism Test.
